Somatuline® is a synthetic somatostatin that acts to regulate growth hormone and growth factors in your body. Somatuline® Depot is a long-acting medication for injection manufacturered by Ipsen Pharma Biotech.
Somatuline® is currently FDA-approved for treatment of acromegaly in patients who have had an inadequate response to surgery and/or radiotherapy.
Somatuline® is given as an injection. Somatuline® requires a valid prescription from your prescriber. Ocean Breeze Healthcare can provide Somatuline® Depot as well as most of the supplies you would need to administer Somatuline® Depot.

What form is Somatuline® Depot currently available?

Somatuline® Depot is available as a pre-filled single-use syringe in 60 mg, 90 mg, and 120 mg strengths. Each injection is prefitted with a needle.

What are some potential side effects(s) of Somatuline® Depot?

Somatuline® Depot is generally well tolerated. While unlikely, possible side effects include, but are not limited to, rash, redness or bruising at the injection site, diarrhea, abdominal pain, gallstone formation, and joint pain.

In rare but serious cases, gallstones may develop while taking Somatuline® Depot. Tell your doctor immediately if you develop sudden pain in your abdomen or around your shoulder or yellowing of skin or eyes. Somatuline® Depot can also affect your blood sugar, increase blood pressure and slows heart rate. Monitor symptoms closely if you are on any medication related to the above conditions.

How do you administer Somatuline® Depot?

Somatuline® Depot needs to be injected deep under the skin in order for the medication to work.

Simply remove the plunger protector and the needle cap from the syringe, and inject the full content under the skin to the top outside quadrant of the buttock. Alternate the side for injection every month.

Be sure to remove sealed pouch of Somatuline® Depot from refrigerator and allow it to come to room temperature half hour before injection.

How do you store Somatuline® Depot?

Somatuline® Depot must be stored in the refrigerator (36 – 46° Fahrenheit) at all times. Keep the drug protected from the light and stored in the original sealed pouch until ready for injection.

How long does Somatuline® Depot last?

Before opening, the Somatuline® Depot is stable until the indicated expiration date listed on the packaging, while stored in the refrigerator. The syringe is for a single use and should be discarded after injection.
