Ovidrel® (chorioganadotropin alfa injection) is a human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) prepared from recombinant DNA technology. Ovidrel® is a prescription medication manufactured by EMD Serono.
Ovidrel® is currently FDA-approved for use for infertility treatment. Clinically, Ovidrel® is shown to help ovulation in the women who have been appropriately pretreated with FSH hormone as part of assisted reproductive technology program or to help those with infertility issues not due to primary ovarian failure.

What form is Ovidrel® currently available?

Ovidrel® is available as a prefilled syringe. Each prefilled syringe contains 250 mcg of the active drug in 0.5 mL of sterile liquid.

What are some potential side effects of Ovidrel®?

The most common side effects include, but are not limited to, abdominal pain, nausea, and injection related reactions such as bruising, redness or pain at the area of injection. Ovidrel® can cause ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) in women. Common symptoms of OHSS include severe pelvic pain, shortness of breath, and weight gain. Other serious side effects include breathing problems, and risk of blood clots and strokes.

Who should NOT use Ovidrel®?

Do not take Ovidrel® if you are already pregnant or have hypersensitivity to hCG preparations or its excipients. Women with intracranial lesion, uncontrolled thyroid, adrenal dysfunction, primary ovarian failure, sex hormone dependent tumors, or abnormal uterine bleeding of unknown origin should not use Ovidrel®.

Talk to your doctor if you are nursing to discuss the benefit versus risk of using Ovidrel®. It is not known if the drug will be passed into mothers' milk.

How do you administer Ovidrel®?

Ovidrel® needs to be injected subcutaneously in order for the medication to work. Ovidrel® Prefilled Syringe contains the ready-to-use liquid formulation. Simply take off the needle cap and remove any air bubbles before injecting under the skin. How do you store Ovidrel®?

Store Ovidrel® away from direct light in its original package.
Ovidrel® may be stored either in refrigerator (36-46°F) or room temperature (up to 77°F).

How long does Ovidrel® last?

Ovidrel® Prefilled Syringe may be stored in refrigerator until the expiration date. If the medication is stored at room temperature, the drug must be used within 30 days.
