Genotropin® is a brand of growth hormone made by Pfizer, Inc. It is used to replace the growth hormone that is missing in a person’s body. Genotropin
Genotropin Genotropin® is currently FDA-approved for treating children with growth failure due to growth hormone deficiency (GHD), Prader-Willi syndrome, Turner Syndrome, idiopathic short stature (ISS), and small for gestational age (SGA). In adults, Genotropin® is approved for GHD.
Genotropin® is given as an injection. Genotropin® requires a valid prescription from your prescriber. Ocean Breeze Healthcare can provide Genotropin® as well as most of the supplies you would need to administer Genotropin®.

What form is Genotropin® currently available?

Genotropin® is currently available with 3 injection device options: Genotropin Pen®, Genotropin MiniQuick®, and Genotropin Mixer®.
The Genotropin Pen® is a pen device available in 5 mg and 12 mg cartridges. The cartridge
Genotropin needs to be reconstituted, or mixed, with  diluent (the clear liquid solution) within the pen, prior to administration. The Genotropin Pen® is available with a needle guard to hide
the needle and provide stability during injections. Genotropin Pen® is available with some customizable options which can be ordered directly from the manufacturer.
Genotropin Genotropin MiniQuick® is a prefilled and premeasured disposable syringe. It is available as a syringe premeasured to contain the following single doses: 0.2 mg, 0.4 mg, 0.6 mg, 0.8 mg, 1.0 mg, 1.2 mg, 1.4 mg, 1.6 mg, 1.8 mg, and 2.0 mg. The Genotropin MiniQuick® needs to be reconstituted, or mixed, with diluent (the clear liquid solution), prior to administration.

Genotropin Mixer® is a device to be used with 5mg and 12mg cartridges utilizing a  traditional needle and syringe. The cartridge needs to be reconstituted, or mixed, with diluent (the clear liquid solution) inside the mixer, prior to administration.

What are some potential side effects of Genotropin®?

Genotropin® is generally well tolerated. While unlikely, potential side effects include rash, redness or bruising at the injection site, and headaches. Some may experience symptoms of swelling, joint and/or muscle pains, and high blood sugar. In rare cases, pancreatitis have occurred, be sure to report any incidence of severe abdominal pain.

How do you administer Genotropin®?

Genotropin® needs to be injected subcutaneously in order for the medication to work.

For Cartridge:

Genotropin® cartridges must be administered with the corresponding Genotropin Pen® delivery systems.

For Miniquick pen:

How do you store Genotropin®?

Genotropin® cartridge must be stored in the refrigerator (at 2 – 8° Celsius) at all times. All unused Genotropin® MiniQuick may be stored under room temperature for up to 3 months. All Genotropin® must be kept away from direct sunlight.

How long does Genotropin® last?

All Genotropin® is stable and last until the indicated expiration date before opening when stored in the refrigerator.

Cartridge:

Once opened, the cartridge is stable for up to 28 days in the refrigerator.

Pre-filled Pens:

Before use, Genotropin® MiniQuick is stable up to 3 months when stored in room temperature. Once reconstituted, the Genotropin MiniQuick is stable up to 24 hours in the refrigerator. Each Genotropin® MiniQuick pen is designed for single use only, discard the pen once it is used.

Q:Is there preservatives in the Genotropin®?
A:Genetropin MiniQuick does NOT contain any preservatives. However, Genotropin® cartridge contains m-cresol.
Q:How often do I take Genotropin®?
A:You should take Genotropin® exactly as prescribed by your doctor. In general, Genotropin® is given as a once-a-day injection.
