Nutropin® is a brand of growth hormone made by Genentech, Inc.  It is used to replace the growth hormone that is missing in a person’s body.

Nutropin ® is currently FDA-approved for treating children with growth failure due to growth hormone deficiency (GHD), Turner Syndrome, idiopathic short stature (ISS), and growth failure due to chronic renal insufficiency before renal transplantation.   In adults, Nutropin® is approved for GHD.

Nutropin ® is given as an injection.  When you order Nutropin ®,  OceanBreeze Healthcare will supply you with all the necessary supplies you would need to administer the Nutropin®.

What form is Nutropin®currently available?

Nutropin® is currently available in 2 formulations: Nutropin®, the dry powder formulation, and Nutropin® AQ, the liquid formulation.

The Nutropin® is available in a vial form. The Nutropin® AQ is available in vial, pen and cartridge form. See chart below for available dosage and strength.

Nutropin® and Nutropin® AQ are both available in vial form. The Nutropin® vial needs to be reconstituted, or mixed with the diluent (the clear liquid solution) provided in the same box as the drug vial. However, Nutropin® AQ vial does not need to be mixed.

The Nutropin AQ® cartridge is already preloaded to Nutropin AQ® NuSpinTM pen device.

Nutropin AQ® pens needs to be used with corresponding Nutropin AQ® cartridge.

What are some potential side effect of Nutropin®?

Nutropin® is generally well tolerated. Potential side effects include rash, redness or soreness at the site of injection, and headaches. Some adults may experience symptoms of swelling, joint pains, or high blood sugar. More serious, but rare incidence of pancreatitis have been reported in those taking the drug.

How do you administer Nutropin®?

Nutropin® needs to be injected subcutaneously in order for the medication to work.

For Vials:

Nutropin® and Nutropin® AQ can be injected with provided syringe with needle. Your doctor will tell you the exact type of needles and syringe to use to inject your Nutropin®. For details, please refer to user instruction guide (PDF: nutropin and nutropin AQ administration guide).

For Cartridge:

Nutropin AQ® NuSpin™ is an self-contained injection pen that is specifically designed for Nutropin AQ® cartridge. The cartridge is preloaded into the Nutropin AQ® NuSpin™. For Pens:

Each Nutropin AQ Pen® needs to be loaded with corresponding Nutropin AQ® cartridge. Simply attach the pen needle for injection. How do you store Nutropin®?

Nutropin® must be stored in the refrigerator (at 2 – 8° Celsius) at all times. Protect away from light. Nutropin AQ Pen® and Nutropin AQ® NuSpin™ may be in room temperature for up to 45 minutes.

How long does Nutropin® last?

Nutropin® is stable and last until the indicated expiration date before opening when stored in the refrigerator.

For Nutropin®:

Each vial of Nutropin® may last for several injections depending on the prescribed dose. Once the vial has been opened, and the dry powder is mixed with the diluent, the mixed solution is stable up to 14 days in refrigerator.

For Nutropin®AQ:

Nutropin® AQ vials, cartridge and Nuspin injection device may last for several injections depending on the prescribed dose. Once they have been opened, it is stable up to 28 days in refrigerator.

Q:How do you mix Nutropin®?
