Gilenya® is the brand name of the drug fingolimod, made by Novartis AG. Gilenya® is currently FDA-approved for treating relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) in adults. Clinical studies show that Gilenya® reduces the signs and symptoms of MS by decreasing the frequency of flare-ups and slows progression of physical disability associated with MS.

In rare instances, Gilenya® can cause a decreased heart rate, especially after your first dose. This effect is usually temporary and your heart rate should return to normal with continued use of the medication. Who should NOT use Gilenya®?

Avoid receiving live vaccines during and for 2 months after stopping Gilenya®, as this increases the risk of infection.

How do you take Gilenya®?

You should take Gilenya® exactly as prescribed by your doctor. In general, the recommended dose for Gilenya® is 0.5mg once per day with or without food. Your first dose should be given in your doctor’s office or clinic so that they might monitor your heart rate and blood pressure.

How do you store Gilenya®?

Gilenya® should be stored at room temperature (59° to 86° Fahrenheit) in a dry place. Store Gilenya® in its original blister pack.
